  • This is unbelievable! I absolutely love her rendition of this. I can't even put my finger on why. I just feel so happy watching her sing this. I couldn't even listen for the voice or technique the first time I was just smiling and bouncing with the music. She's phenomenal! And Strauss is a genius.

  • Omg I didnt know we the Asian have such a great voice !

  • Ms.Sumi truly lets out the Voices of Spring. :) She is so pretty...

I never cease to be amazed by the different ways individuals hear "appreciate" music. My purely personal feeling is that Sumi Jo and Maria Callas are like chalk and cheese. Ms Callas has always "left me cold"

The one voice I adore above all others you feel similar to one I dislike. Truly human taste is an unsolvable mystery!

Enjoy your music what ever it may be!

  • @bunnyoneedge

    lol, more are instrumental! :)

  • Finally: a Performer, a Voice to match the legendary Maria Callas!

I'm your fan from now on, Sumi Jo. What a jo (sweetheart)!

  • Dessay, for example, throws in a high note at the end. In fact, you can get a stark comparison near the end of the piece from the point where the voices alternate with the flute onward. Ziemer is all over the place with short bursts and bent notes, battle goes for a very sweet light-hearted sound, and Sumi Jo goes with a joyful strength. Sumi Jo was my favorite.

  • Not being an expert in in classical music and opera, I tried to compare Sumi Jo's performance on this video with others by Ute Ziemer, Natilie Dessay, and Kathleen Battle. I find they differ enough to say that all of these ladies take liberties with the piece, which is not a bad thing.

  • She is fantastic !

  • Omg, she was magnificent! *****

  • @Nautilus1972 Some Asian langues don't have great tonal distinctions (e.g. Korean). I don't think your overly generalizing statement explains anything here.

  • Un oiseau du printemps, en ce 20 mars... Quelle voix splendide!
