R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, Bright Eyes, Susan Sarandon, Margaret Cho, Moby, Chuck D, and DMC, were among the stars performing for the Bring Em Home concert on Monday night (March 20). The event designed to promote awareness of what they believe is the truth about the war, and to mobilize people to encourage the politicians to bring our troops home.

The event featured the unveiling of an anti-war stamp, and Stipe mugged with both other musicians and real-world anti-war activists at a pre-event press conference. Backstage, Fischerspooner's Casey Spooner, with Warren Fischer next to him, talked about what they want people to get out of the event.

  • "dude".. a satire is: the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

satire can be comical.. but it uses humor to address serious issues, in a critical way..

"we need a war to make us feel safe" he's criticizing American government and commenting on the absurd notion that a war provides security..

    that's what i think..

    read: A Modest Proposal

  • It's one of those cases where the intent is positive, but the outcome could be disastrous.

Being anti war only makes them clever. Good for them.

Dude, a satire is a mockery of something.

    Such as comedy.

  • no.. i think it's satire... and it is ironic but i think his tone is mocking the neo-conservative idea "we need a war to show em'" and the gun blazing honky morons that fancy themselves "mavericks".. just my opinion.. yea, nekrad totally didn't read your first statement.. haa..

  • Yes; in fact, that is so much the case you can't even find the word "ironic" in the last paragraph of my previous post.

But just so you rest assured, "irony" is what you call something that's said in a tone contrary to it's actual meaning.

I'd appreciate that you read the whole comment before posting an answer to it.

  • You ever heard of a concept called irony ? ;-o

  • 0:53 - QUESTION:

If Casey Spooner and Warren Fischer are willing to raise their voices against a war, then why include a song called "We Need a War" with completely imperialistic, pro-war lyrics, in their second album?

I mention this because it didn't come across at all as something ironic, when I listened to it.

  • is that devendra banhart?

  • Yay Moby and Michael Stipe! Baldies unite =D

  • 02:01 minutes i'll never get back
