Yummy ribs! Im in eastern Nebraska and it seems we have a fair amount of sunny summer days but I wonder about winter. Where abouts are you and have you tried winter solar cooking?

I am located in central Maine. I have solar cooked in the winter, but cooking time is short. Still, there is enough time to cook fish as well as reheating leftovers.

That's pretty neat how such a simple device is able to get the job done. The cooker w/ the ribs looks a bit bigger than the one w/ the rice. Does that explain why the ribs were hotter than the rice?
Are you happy w/ those units, or would you like to get something more substantial?

Both cookers are about the same size. The temperature difference can be atributed to the two different methods of measuring. I amhappy withn them, but I do want to build a more permanent box oven on my deck for winter cooking.

Thanks for the reply. I've been thinking of making a solar cooker for home use and have been looking at various designs on YouTube, gathering ideas and information. You said you're thinking of going with a box oven, is there a YouTube video that shows the one you want?

I haven't seen a design on youtube that is really what I want for a box oven. But I am thinking of a design that hipofalcon has except optimized for my lattitude, so the angles might be a bit different.
