  • why use a transmission?

    Why not an electric controller?

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy

In a front wheel drive car, the transmission connects the engine to the wheels, and acts as the differential for them as well.

I'm really not using the gearing much in the car, but need to physically connect the power of the motor to the wheels. Some factory-built EV's used custom single-speed gear reduction to connect the motor to the wheels.

Why bother doing that when the transmission is already there, fits, and works fine?

The Tesla Roadster SPORT model lists at $128,500. Add sales tax and/or any options, and it's past $130,000.

My motor was a used series-wound forklift motor I bought for $50, and spent another $50 for new brushes for it.

My car has a manual transmission, and is currently using an off-the-shelf 72V Curtis controller.

The batteries were also used, saving additional cost over purchasing new parts.

Please watch the rest of the videos in this series for the details.

  • @PHILG64 You should learn to do some fact checking. There are many low budget conversions out there. It is your kind of misinformation that keeps the public away from doing conversions.

  • @PHILG64 If I went to YOU for a conversion, of course not. If I was lucky and a really good scrounger, and didn't need something with much range, sure.

  • @PHILG64 WHAT! i contverted my hyundai accent for 2300$ CND, and its loaded with new parts i bought, new brakes, new drums, full new suspention but i bought brand new batteries, and i also used a forklift motor. THERE IS SUCH thing as a 600$-3000$ ev you jst gotta make it, and be resourceful, i got 100km range and about 90km top speed

  • I can have so much fun at school studying a variety of subjects and listening to teachers teach. Watching the students in class will be hilarious.
