Acidtrip.com DOS Virus

The acidtrip virus is an obvious attempt to scare the user. To quote the source code, "It goes off at 12:00pm (any day) if the monitor
is in 80x25x16color text mode, scrolling wildly through the color
pallete and displaying "Your PC is on an [Acid Trip]... Try again
later..." near the center of the screen."

How do you get a virus on DOS?

On DOS, viruses infected excutable .EXE files by adding a "jump instruction" into the code, which would load the viral code before the actual program. This caused the virus to become memory resident and infect all files executed on the system. These infected files could then be passed along on floppy disks by users sharing programs, unknowingly transfering a virus in the process. This was the most common way, although some viruses used different infection techniques.
