I wrote this song in honor of those who protect my children, my home, my country.

On a November morning, I was waiting, while my wife was getting ready so we could run errands. We had been talking about having kids soon, and I began to feel extremely protective of my yet unborn children. I would do anything for them. I could never let anything happen to them. Not my kids. I have to always be there for them, to keep them from harm. I would die to protect them. I couldn't bear it if anything happened to them.

Then it hit me.... Some parents have to watch as their child leaves home to go to war, to protect my children. Some of those sons and daughters don't come back.

This is something I still can't comprehend, but I was determined to do something about it. Being a songwriter, I began to write.

How can I let these people know what I'm feeling? The gratitude that I have for all they do? For the time they lose with their loved ones when they are gone, doing a tough and dangerous job? What would I want if I was "over there"??

"Simple acknowledgment"... I thought.

20 minutes later the song was done. I played it for my wife on an acoustic guitar, and she cried. I did too.

The United States is my home, where I raise my family. It is protected every day (today included) by those who give up their time, energy, and sometimes their very lives for my freedoms.

I will not forget those who have sacrificed......for all of us. They are real people with real moms, dads, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, and children of their own.

I have been given a precious gift... provided to me by every American soldier, past, present, and future.

I choose to not be cynical about my country, or the people who give so much for our prosperity. I choose to be grateful. And to let those who are far from home know, that they are not forgotten. They are heroes...

"Thank you"
