Whistler Olympic Village 2010, how we got there ...
The designs of Urban Movement, the 2010 Olympic Village at Whistler has health and movement programmed throughout the infrastructure. Designs include bus shelters, benches and bicycle racks designed for multiple purposes including stretching and resting before and after a workout or your daily activities.
Whistler's participation in an LEED-ND pilot project also meant that Urban Movement Design's vision for accessibility and increased physical activity would enable fulfillment of two potential LEED-ND points: Universal accessibility and innovation.
Accessibility and physical activity (mobility) are core components of sustainability. There is a need to go beyond the guidelines of accessibility and sustainability, utilize innovation and take sustainability to the next level.
Accessibility can be seen as a ribbon of movement that draws out patterns of play, social activity and living, throughout an urban environment.
