POP CULTURE LMAO!
-
As a polish person that heard "dumb polock" jokes, I really wish Hasselbeck didn't say she was polish.
-
Sherri grew up with the emergence of the pop culture machine. Whoopi grew up with the struggle.

@forbuss Whoopi and Sherri stated it was a word used against us (blacks) and now we (blacks) use it the way we want to use it. I work in law enforcement and Ive been called every name in the book including the N-word.YOU CAN NOT let words break you. Our ancestors didnt fight for our rights to just have black people break down because someone called them the N-word. HELL NO! Its not right to call people racist names but you cant let those names destroy you! If you do you just went back in time!

@pdxjason503 But it DOES have an effect, thats what Whoopi and Sherri are saying.

Whoopi isn't understanding Elisabeth either. It isn't JUST part of african-american culture, it's part of the AMERICAN culture. I am white and it offends me to hear that word, because it reminds me of a time when PEOPLE treated PEOPLE with no respect, dignity, etc. Elisabeth has the right to just as many feelings as anyone else sitting at that table. We will always see race first then the person second if words like that are still used.

I'm african american.I think it shouldn't be used personally. I've been raised with a family that is an older generation and maybe that's just my mind set but I would not dare say it around my family and although people think its just a word the meaning behind it gives it strength that we shouldn't ignore. The only time older african americans who were slaves and use the word is usually an insult. That word is never meant to be a good thing

Im black and I can honestly say that it isnt uncommon for the N word to be used by blacks. Doesnt mean its right for it to be around and it doesnt mean it not right either. The good point of it still being used is the word was originally used as a weapon and now its powerless and used by the people it was designed to destroy. If a person of another race calls me a niger its going to get the same reaction as if he/she called me stupid or dumb. NO EFFECT! Its a word, it cant kill me!

Whenever someone that incredibly stupid like Elisabeth makes the most sense in regards to the topic of the n-word, that's all there needs to be said of how screwed up things are within the black community. The n-word, regardless of what it's said and spelled means only one thing: hatred.
-
words only have power when you give them power.
This is the ONLY time I will ever admit to agreeing with Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Double standards are never ok.
I've never understood why a black person (I am also black) would want to us the n-word. Why would you want to call someone an insulting word that was used by the past oppressors of your race?

@myrage721 I watched the vid, and I still disagree with using the word. The basic message of the clip was, "it's not offensive if I'm using it in a different way", and in terms of the n-word, I will never think that's correct, as the word will always hold the negative connotation it did in slavery days. Sorry, but that's the truth, and us blacks using the word isn't going to help race relations one bit: it just creates a double standard that others can scoff at, and makes us look ignorant.
