Jimmy Carter, a former US president who has been involved in monitoring the elections in Egypt, says that while "irregularities" have been reported to him, he believes the poll is an accurate representation of the will of the people.

The Egyptian election commission is due to unveil the results of its third and final round of parliamentary voting on Friday.

Carter told Al Jazeera that he also believes that the Islamist parties that have won the most seats in the polls so far have told them they intend to honour their country's treaty with Israel.

Al Jazeera's Mike Hanna reports from Cairo, the Egyptian capital.
