governor kitzhaber has an extremely myopic view of healthcare that stems from his time working in the er. he seems to believe that our healthcare crisis can be cured with preventative care with the purpose of keeping people out of er's. this is a ridiculous way to think about the issue. there will be many people with chronic illnesses who spend down to Medicaid in Oregon who will be left to "die upstream" (to borrow one of kitzhaber's favorite analogies).

With the health care exchanges just 17 months away, now is the time to start looking at ways to lower the overall cost of health care. There is a lot of "low hanging fruit" as they say, and we need to start acting on that immediately.
