@balanblonde2 yes, good observation--a high class 'Columbo' as it were--and it foils the villains and is most effective. Different interpretations--look at Margaret Rutherford's over top vs. quiet Joan Hickson, which I also like.

@windstorm1000 Suchet's Poirot takes himself too seriously, while Ustinov's Poirot knows how to fool people into thinking he is not a genius at all, just a pathetic old man - which he is very aware he is not, but sees no need to prove it to anyone.

forgot to mention you throw in 20 Cole Porter songs and the movie is even more elegant.

@Jibbie49 Yes, but Ustinov captures something that Suchet doesn't and I can't quite define it for you--he's more pleasurable and amusing to watch--more aristocratic and also more lovable. Suchet keeps everyone at arms length and I find that tiresome for all his external spot on with Poirot's 'look'

One of my faves. A stylish, campy murder mystery--it manages not to take it self too seriously yet keeps you on edge at the same time--not an easy thing to do. A top notch cast, great period detail and heavenly locale. Have this one with a side car or manhatten!!!

Every time I read Agatha Christie, I cannot see David Suchet as Poirot at all. People have sodifferent imaginations, I adore Peter Ustinov he has a gravity without being like a cartoon.
