Don't bother with the Julianne Moore version, it's crap.
Beckett was involved in the direction of this performance, I seem to recall, and Billie Whitelaw was definitely his favourite actress. She performed it live shut in a box, and suffered physically afterwards from the sheer effort. This is the business, no doubt about that.

I know you all love this, and I do to, but I'm just curious.

I adore this. It's something that you can see over and over and pick up something new every time.

I'm very new to this stuff, but I would say that it is definitely what Beckett would have wanted for this peice. For those of you who are saying "he only wrote this to confuse" you are stupid. He wrote it so you would think. So you would create your own story and interpretation. This, to me, is the magic of absurdism. One must construct the story yourself under the conditions of the dialogue, and what you see.

Different. I love it.

Exactly. I agree with you when you say there was never any intention to confuse or misinform.
However, I don't think the purpose of the work was intended to be so malleable as you seem to believe. Beckett, of all playwrights, was very particular in how his works were to be preformed. That could only suggest that, to him, the "meaning" of the work was very specific too.
