This is a rare single from my collection that was recorded during the time when IB's Heavy lineup was in shambles. I want to say this was recorded either in late 1967 or early 1968, but I am not sure. This was used as the A-Side to Possession. There was a Mexican release that included this song and 3 others from Heavy.

Lineup:
Doug Ingle - Keyboards/Backing Vocals
Darryl DeLoach - Lead Vocals/Percussion
Danny Weis - Guitar
Jerry Penrod - Bass
Ron Bushy - Drums

or Possibly with:
Erik Braunn - Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals
Lee Dorman - Bass

Anyone who might have additional info about this please email me at:

Enjoy!

  • The guitar work in this IS Danny Weis, he is my uncle.

  • @hesarufaerie Great! The more info I get about these Iron Butterfly 45s the better. There's is just too little official information about them that it gets very confusing. So if you or anyone who knows former/current members of Iron Butterfly who can confirm the lineups on these 45s I would be very appreciative.

    Thanks again!

  • I may be young, but I've done so much reasearch into Iron Butterfly, that I know for a fact that its very fuzzy as to when Erik Braunn and Lee Dorman joined. Some say they joined right before the recording of "Vida"...but I don't buy that. I believe that they joined between late-Nov. and early Dec. of 1967 perhaps even earlier. But the info on IB between October 1967-Late January 1968 is so sparse that it makes it near impossible to be 100% sure of the lineup.

  • @PsychedelicTeen That is Darryl Deloach singing. Not Doug and certainly not Erik Braunn.

  • @BestMusicExpert I know. I didn't say anything to the contrary did I?

  • So here's what we know. The Heavy album was recorded in October of 1967. But it wasn't released until Jan. 22, 1968, by which point the Heavy lineup had dissolved and Erik and Lee were already in IB. In my conversation with Doug, he told me that Erik and Lee joined IB near the end of 1967. So, if there's a chance that this was recorded after the Heavy album, then there is still a chance that this song has Erik and Lee on it. But we can't be sure until Lee, Ron and Doug confirm the lineup.

  • I can't reconcile the singer's voice with my concept of Iron Butterfly.

  • excelente canción del primer butterfly; gracias por subirlo!

  • The archetypal psychedelic sound....brilliant

  • I can't remember the date but it was probably later 67 or early 68 I saw them perform at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in CA. It was at a dance called Dewalt's on Saturday nights and he brought in a lot of upcoming talent before they made it big. Steppen Wolf played and the Animals. I was blown away by IB's psychedelic style. I've always considered them and Jefferson Airplane the 2 true psychedelic bands. They came with "light show" projecting paint smeared between clear glass onto the walls.

  • Danny Weis has a Myspace page where you can contact him for more information. He was one of the founding members of Iron Buterfly, so I am sure he would have all the info you need, and if not I can contact him through email of any questions you might have.

  • @crazypainter56 I compiled that album for Rhino-

  • @PsychedelicTeen I saw them in January '67 and they had a different lead guitar player than the In A Godda guitarist. The guy I saw looked like Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. The IB had a "Mick Jagger" lead singer when I saw them so they were a 5 man group. He was a great dancer and an tamborine player and sang unisons with the organ player. God they had a great sound captured best in In A Godda Da Vida. THAT is what they sounded like. Very loud yet very clear like their namesake.
