  • his version is better than barry manilow's

  • I agree. I thought it might be my DC bias but honestly, listening to David Cassidy's version, I like this song now. Barry's version always got on my nerves.

  • I always loved the way he sung 'of special, special things'.

    That's David.

  • I think this is superior to Barry's version, I love the arrangement to.

  • I like both David & Barry's versions.

  • Not terrible, but there is a reason Manilow is known for this song and Cassidy isn't. The arrangement is weak, and honestly, his voice isn't matched to it well. There are moments here his vocal range is tried a little too much here. Not his fault, it was just a poor match by the producer, that's all.

  • David's version was the first, and the ultimate! Such passion!

  • I like Barry Manilow, but this version to me is FAR better...

  • both the captain and tenille and david cassidy recorded this song but Cassidy's version was released first and was a big hit in the UK. About a year later Clive Davis approached Barry Manilow who was working on his 3rd album about doing this song. Manilow wasn't crazy about it--he thougt the "I write the songs...." was egotistical. Clive Davis insisted and Barry Manilow gave in a recorded the song.

  • I think this one has a better and more interesting production. More imaginative use of the instruments.

  • I'm a David Cassidy fan, but I need to say that this version is weaker than Manilows. Barry's had more power and grabs the listener more.....But again, I am a BIG Cassidy fan...just not with THIS song.

  • @msss22 Can you explain what you mean Manilow stole it from Cassidy ? The song first appeared on Captain & Tennile`s 1975 album and Cassidy stole it from there and released it as a single before they did . Cassidy`s version was a bit weak but it did limp to number 11 in the USA b efore it was outshone by

Manilow`s version the following year which hit # 1 leaving Cassidy`s version to be relegated to the forgotten racks
