  • I've read/heard instances of the GW500 working without activating the cd changer input by the dealer, but I opted for the sure route and paid for the activation. I also had it activated before installation to make sure I installed it correctly as I was working on it.

  • @videotropic its PCM 2.1 since its the defacto unit installed after 2005. The minor difference with the PCM installed in the Cayenne is that there is no video input for rear camera (green connector).

  • @MadBrainiac Thanks - my setup is the same as that of the OP, there is neither CD changer nor Nav system, How can I tell what PCM version I have? 2007 Targa 4S, S/W version 4.0

  • @videotropic if the car doesn't have the CDC you have to make sure to remove the left/right side trims of the nav and the GW500 can sit underneath the radiow with the fibres and you run the ipod/usb wires to the glovebox. If you have the original CDC then you would have to run the optical loop all the way up to the front which is a bit of a nightmare really.

  • @MadBrainiac can you elaborate on the simpler installation technique?

  • @Abualaraby PCM 2.1 instead of CDR24 is definately good since don't have to code the CDC with the factory diagnostic when you own nav system. With PCM 2.1 and since you don't have a factory CDC at the front boot, you just have to make sure you install the fibres in the right order and 12V/gnd wires connected properly. The most difficult part of the installation is making sure you fit the GW500 unit neatly without the fibres getting bent and passing the USB/iPod cable to the spot you want.

  • @MadBrainiac I got one question: I just bought a used porsche 911/997 with sat nav and no cd changer. does this make a huge difference for the car not having a CD changer. I'm not as clever as you are to dare to install it myself but the instalation guys who will charge me £120 said that " after connecting it I have to go to porsche to activate it as my car got no CD changer!"! is that true?

  • excellent ..thanks for the effort!

Thanks again for the great video!

  • First off, the connection of the Dension in the instance of the vehicle not having a CD Changer can be done at the front of the vehicle quite easily. No need to install it at the front, sorry your install is overkill. Also no need to program through PIWIS for the PCM 2.1, only for CDR23/24. If you powered up the unit normally then it would have auto-sensed the GW500. I've only had to program PCM 2.1 for GW500, once in three years.
