  • Although Murray's fake Italian accent may strike as politically incorrect today, this song was not intended to make fun of Caruso's Italian heritage (none of the lyrics suggest that). I actually think Caruso would have loved this song. He would've laughed hysterically if he actually heard this recording.

  • Great song, and the lyrics are pretty funny. :) "His voice so sad-a, drives the ladies all mad-a." xD A wonderful tribute to the great Caruso. The opening lyrics make a reference to the opera house wars between the Manhattan Opera House and the Metropolitan around the time Caruso came to America. Hammerstein tried to lure Caruso away from the Met, but to no avail.

  • Back at a time when the worlds greatest operatic tenor was also the world's most popular singer. People had culture then.

  • Very funny and clever. And...don't you just love that kind of orchestration? Very typical of the time...and of many early cartoons!

Thanks for posting this bit of hilarious history!
