I would hate to be in that ore bucket in the sky.

What's her name died a few years ago. She used to have a caretaker and rent rooms on weekends in the old hotel. That was in the mid 90's. I do not know the current disposition of the property. It was quite a place to visit back then.

It looks like you have done a lot of this.Have you every found anything of value you in any of these old mines? I'm sure that some of these places have antiques laying around. I envy you.As an OTR trucker i have passed by some of these old sites and wanted to stop the truck and take a look for myself but never did. I remember going across the CO mountains and seeing a bunch of these old sites sitting right alone side the road, always wanted to check em out but never had the time.

@lobster68w Thanks! Yeah, the tram was pretty sweet. Seeing that lone ore bucket hanging up there for all these years was pretty cool.

I just visited Cerro Gordo last weekend. Cool place! Bob Desmarais is the new care taker. call 760-876-5030 for a scheduled tour. By August he planes on renting out the cabins if you want to stay the night. Have fun.
Did the owner , I forget her name, let you explore the fat hill area?. On the east side entrance there are some veryinteresting mines and Indian structures.

@RESISTCONTROL2 The owner you are speaking of, Jody, died several years ago. So did her husband. The only person who resides there now is a caretaker. No, we didn't hike up behind the town on this visit. It did look like there was a lot of stuff up there to see, though.
