I will show you about the privacy dangers of having an outdated analog cordless phone.

People can scan eavesdrop to cordless phones through radio scanners. Since radio scanners are passive devices there is no warning.

Check your phone manual if it is a

900MHz DSS
1.8GHz DECT
2.4Ghz
5.8GHz

Then it is immune from scanning with regular scanners.

Phones that are

30-39
46-49
800-900

Can be picked up with ease with radio scanners

  • So who did you call and hang up on?

  • @Binky40SW

I believe it was dominos pizza

  • There's no protection anyway you look at it, I have an electronics friend who routinely listens to phone calls that he intercepts via way of a satellite decoder used for pay TV (HBO etc) the lower band receiver frequencies might be excluded from most current scanners but the offset re-transmit frequencies used for repeaters to re-transmit to orbiting satellites that are piggy backed into the carrier wave of the Giga band(s) are still receptive to interception.

    Know what I mean?

  • @Anchanthai

Yeah, the calls are leaking into the sat tv frequencies?

Another problem about 5.8GHz phones was back in 2003 when they first came out quite a few only used 5.8GHz for Base TX whilst using 900MHz for Mobile TX (Handset to base)

DECT 6.0 is probably the most secure cordless phone frequency since it comes with encryption (albeit weak encryption)

  • i can remember the first time i found out someone was dipp'in ...it was a hippie guy and his wife i was makeing phone sex calls not really getting hot so i hung up when i went outside there the hubby was standing with a perverted smile not my type so i kept steppin.

  • DECT "CAN" be listened to, all you need is a VOIP Card and a PC Running Linux, the encryption is very weak.

What you forgetting here is that theres alot of clever people out there and if it's wireless then 9/10 it can be hacked, they only thing that i've not seen hacked yet is EU Police Radios using Tetra or Airwave, but as computing power gets more advanced it will only be a matter of time.
