I just got the Mesa Boogie Express 5:50 a couple of days ago and thought that I would do a quick demo of the versatility that this amp offers. I used my Epiphone Les Paul Standard to demo the amp, sorry for the sloppy playing. This amp is pretty impressive, if you are looking for a great all around amp this amp is great it can give you some shimmering clean tones, gritty blues, grungy rhythms and some metallic leads. This is not a metal amp but if you put a distortion pedal in front of the amp it can really play some great metal stuff.

  • Wow, that amp is so responsive, such great tone. Great job, on that guitar, buddy. I just picked on up in mint condition, I won't even tell you how much....(it has 2-12's)...ok, ok, got it for $700. I'm very happy.

  • @bigvatodre Wow thats a great deal on that amp! You are right it is a very responsive and just sounds amazing.

  • Nice vid- and all in the 5 Watt mode!!!

  • Look at his dials, on the burn channel the gain is hardly up and alot of you say this amp has no gain, there is plenty on tap. Just not a true metal amp but anything musically under extreme metal this amp can do no problem. yes there is some hiss on blues/burn channel but you cannot hear it while playing. I love my 5/50 and will post some sample hopefully soon. Nice review I wish you showed how responsive the eq is though, just turning the dials a tad yields huge amounts of difference in tone

  • What were your amp settings? For the start?

    Thanks!!

  • Also, the tubes I replaced on this amp were JJ ecc83s's and 6l6 GC's. Played a gig last night with it and found that it's got even more gain on tap that before I changed the tubes. No problems getting metal out of this beast. Had the gain dialed in at 1:00 and we were playing material from the first Dio album. Just the amp and no pedals.

  • Great amp! I've got one! Just replaced the stock tubes for JJ's and now it sounds even better.

I'd have to dissagree with you on one thing though! The amp's plenty capable of doing Metal all on it's own! It's all in the playing technique!

  • I just got this yesterday and I'm blown away by it. I love the 6L6 tubes and the reverb is great. I keep mine on 50, cause I feel the 5 watt mode is a bit digital to my ears
