I wanted to add something, the advantage of this technque is the ablitiy to modulate from one key (tonal center) to another key (tonal center). Being CHROMATIC in style means moving from one place to another in harmony.

On the other hand, playing notes within the scale is DIATONIC in nature. More on this thread in upcoming videos
