OOh yeah. You are correct. I yield to your words.

Napoleon lost fights and then had his pwned press dress them up as victories. And Washington didn't dress things up like that, he couldn't really, the colonies didn't have sophisticated method of bullshitting people [like the present 'free press' (not free at all)]... at that time.

Yeah, like with Caesar n Boney, history all Topsy tuning because of historians with agendas.

The General was more of a man than most, but he was more content at peace.

I would add that by today's standards Washington's methods for disciplining his troops would seem a bit harsh, though they were standard at the time.

He actually practiced the old Roman method of decimation when one group of his troops attempted to dessert due to no pay and bad conditions. He selected one of ten men to be shot.

I also believe that it was Von Stuben who instituted Prussian discipline to the Continental army including the gauntlet and flogging.

    Peace to you too

Actually Napoleon lost three decisive campaigns, one of which, the retreat from Russia ranks as the worst military defeat of all times and a catastrophic one at that. You probably know this better but something like 300 thousand troops of the grand Army entered Russia and only 6000 came back alive. Reminds me a lot of Stalingrad.

And his losses in Spain and North Aftica were also pretty serious.

Anyway you are right about Washington.

His campaign around New York was a masterpiece. He fought and LOST 12 fights in the Hudson area around NYC. LOST the fights and still he forced the British to vacate, which means he lost some fights and WON the campaign.

How many elected generals can pull that off?

Napoleon lost one battle and lost everything. And he is said to be great.

    Well, Washington was really something.

    But was he a blazer?

a Great Man buried in myth and mystery.

    Peace.

Back in the day, 'Gentlemen' could fight duels and did. And my reading about him was that he was as cool as a cucumber. I don't know if leaders of men, like he was, let themselves relax, always on guard, for Honour....

And there were, back then, no drug laws, so he could have used anything he wanted, except he couldn't lose his cool, or act like an ass. He was The Colonel, not a colonel but THE. Later The General.

Well, likely the flowers of hemp were eaten far more often than smoked. And if you have ever ate them, you would know why too... People did know how to pipe-smoke opium and it was even fashionable in some social circles. And the Colonel lived horses. I mean he, like Grant, had horses in his bones. And he must have seen what happens to ponies who eat 'loco-weed.' So I tend to think of him as a figure and he had to keep his composure.
