It is thought that the client was Lorenzo de Medici, "il Popolano" not the Magnificient, but you are right, it's full of simbolism.

My professor in Philosophy of the Renaissance told me some amazing things about this masterpiece. Full of symbolism and allegory. M. Ficino was the one who ordered this painting from S. Botticelli and that, I think, explains everything. Take care.
