this Windows 95 video came from an interactive Windows 95 demonstration CD i'd gotten from god-knows-where-way-back-when. it had demos and info on all the new Windows 95 applications and accessories.

Windows 3.11 is NOT an OS. it is simple a DOS shell... with extended features.

you're right, we could probably argue that, but for a FACT, 3.11 is NOT an OS.

It is. Win16 executables cannot be run in DOS Mode.

And DOS was just used by Win9x as a bootloader and kept for MS-DOS apps support.

but in both cases you need to be running Windows for certain programs. so it's kinda a extension to the OS

This is true. All versions of Windows up to 3.11 for Workgroups could not operate on their own, as Windows 95 and later versions could. You had to run MS-DOS and THEN launch Windows. Windows 3.x was just a graphical DOS shell.
