Bob and Grant are quintessential Minneapolis: artsy, self-absorbed, serious, perhaps too serious and...pretentious.

@spuffchops70 you know, he ALWAYS seems to have erratic sound/guitar problems...

@dpspac333 I agree. I saw Grant play live in Glasgow, Scotland last night and he doesn't look good. He's lost most of his teeth, his skin is pallid & waxy-looking & his eyes look tired. Played a great set despite erratic guitar/sound problems though, and seems a really sweet guy. A shame...

If you know anything about Husker Du you would know these guys are not reforming - not ever.Show's over.

@dpspac333 I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised. I saw him about a year ago as well in Perth, Western Australia and I got pretty much the same feeling. It was a pretty small venue and a small crowd so after the show he had a cigarette and chat with myself and a few of the other audience members. I'm pretty sure he was high at the time, he was acting excitable, arrogant and was rambling. I left feeling kind of sad.

Also, saw him here in San Francisco last year or so, and it was scary how he looked. I mean, people age and shit, but he used to be sorta thick, and at this show, he had that look of someone thats been on methadone for years: deathly pale, thin, and that peculiar look of being preserved in junk. Could be he's been off for years, and while he's supported himself as a creative all his life, there's something sort of tragic about him. Is it drugs? He's a real sweet guy, though, and deserves praise

I don't really want to talk trash about Grant, but @theStallion is kinda right; I think he has had like three basic ideas in his whole career, and he's been hashing them out all these years. Saw him solo after the breakup in like '92, and he opened really strong, the song hit its climax, and then everything after that seemed to be sorta the same formula...and I really lost interest, went next door, the buzz wore off quick. Everyone else was worshipping him, tho.

This track is quintessentially punk in the old schoolest of ways. It's about the United States of America. The broken chains at her feet, the book in one hand and fire in the other: 'She' is the Statue of Liberty. America's broken promises in one hand, upholding sovereignty of other lands. Mr. Assange helping expose a lot of the circles in which she is a liar. And she's still clinging to the old empire.
Viva the new Rome!
A new school punk song too in that 'she' is the x-wife. TheOldEmpire

My God! Is Restless Records even in business anymore?

These guys were magnificent live. I saw them dozens of times. Grant looks great and really healthy here. Apparently he was still an addict thru the Nova Mob years but of all the times I saw them play live he never looked to be impaired even one time.
this guy is a gift to the world.
