Scene's from Shuli Rand's film "Ushpizin" (2004) which particularly echo S.Y. Agnon's short story "Etrogo shel Oto Tzadik" (in "HaEish vehaEitzim"); translated as "That Tzaddik's Etrog" (in "A Book That Was Lost" - Toby Press).

Note the love. He buys his wife the earrings because he loves her. And he buys Hashem the best etrog for the same reason.

@KingOystar yes, but he had to give back some of the gift that he received, and the etrog was a metaphor for all the good things ( his wife returning, his baby son, his faith) that he would receive if he passed these difficult tests.
