If I was a racist, this movie would offend me. In the movie, white children look up to a black man; the old lady calls on Uncle Remus to help with the injured child; Uncle Remus holds the boy's hand while the boy lay injured in bed; the black people are no longer slaves since it takes place after the Civil War. Yep, very offensve for a racist. That's why I like it.

This film isn't racist all you over political piss wits out there. This is based around the civil war and things were different back then and it was made just after WWII and things were different then. The point is that this is a lovely story about lovely characters. So shut up and enjoy the dam thing rather then complaining about 'racism'.

Never seen this movie before, but had it's sound track record when I was little. It is a shame that it has been hidden for so long. I had to wait 30 years for the internet to come along, just to see a fine movie and a good actor playing Uncle Remus.
Anyone who wants to censor this movie because they find it racist should probably grow a thicker skin. Probably the type of people that get offended whenever the wind blows, they kind that are impossible to work around.

@1mnmfan It's considered racist and politically incorrect and many blacks found this film extremely offensive because they were enslaved and looked on as outcasts and claimed that white people in this were mimicking their pronounciation but that's southern speak. Johnny talks more Atlantaish and posh so that's not a problem but Disney had gone off this heritage and banned it because people had complained about it. Walt himself wasn't too keen on it either so that also explains your answer.

The Walt Disney Company has turned its back on its heritage. The only films it is interested in promoting are things like High School Musical and Hannah Montana. The company has made very few of its live action films from the real Walt Disney available for the public. As for Song of the South being "racist", this is a ludicrous charge. It is no more "racist" than Gone With the Wind, an no one has talked about banning that film- at least not yet.
I see Japanese subtitles at 0:14. Are they elsewhere?

@Feneter They appear only on the titlecard and during the songs.

I believe this is from the Japanese VHS johnnynl.
I wish one day, we would be able to see this movie in all of its uncut NTSC 94-minute glory, without the Japanese subtitles. Unfortunate that the Japanese home video releases are the only way to see this movie in its native NTSC format.

@vnisanianisback Actually this from a bootleg VHS copy of the japanese laserdisc release of Song Of The South that I found on ebay in october and I was going to be 18 in a couple of weeks and I was able to get because it was in NTSC format and I hated the uk version because of the pitches. I decided to upload the movie since today nobody is able to see this movie.

@vnisanianisback But yeah I agree with you. Song Of The South needs to be realised on DVD but they called this movie antiquated’ and ‘fairly offensive. I don't anything offensive about it and I've wanted to see this film ever since I was a little boy. But who knows when?
