I felt I owed it to the noble wombats to give them their own video. They deserve it after all.

Sorry about the skip in the middle. That's due to my poor editing skills.

  • Marsupials are awesome. I have two sugar gliders that make my life happy (and they're ADORABLE). I've been thinking about breeding them, but it's not like horses, you can't just let them get fertilised by some random stud and then give it back to whoever owns it, suggies mate for life, and i'm not sure i want an alpha male cluttering up my all girl dormatory.

  • OMG YOU HAVE SUGAR GLIDERS?!?!?!?!? I WANT ONE!!! I've wanted a sugar glider for forever! But I have no idea where to get them and I'm not sure if they're eve legal in california. *sniffle* they're so adorable....

  • I've never heard of a state in which they were illegal to own, you should research that kind of thing, of course. In terms of finding them, it's pretty easy. I didn't know anything about them when i got mine. All i did was google search 'sugar glider breeders illinois', and started emailing people about price, availability, and caretaking basics. If you start today, you could easily have a pair of your own by april. Just be warned that they limit your autonomy.

  • How big of a cage do they need? Like, do they need a particularly big cage for an animal of their size? Or just like a regular rat or hamster cage?

  • The important thing for cages is height. They're tree-dwellers so they want to be as far off the ground as possible, and make sure it has bras instead of solid sides so they can climb around. Personally, i use a 3.5 ft tall by 1.5 ft wide rectangular bird cage, and it's, honestly, less room than i'd like them to have. They love to climb, they love to chew, and they NEVER hold still except in their pouch, so keep those things in mind.

  • Thanks for the tips! I'm off to try and find a breeder in range!

  • you had me at killer guinea pigs.

  • ok no joke

my dog looks like a wombat : )

    shes a staffy

    shes soooo cute

    theyre like tiny brown bears

  • i almost hit a wombat last year. it was a big one. he was just standing in the middle of the highway, i thought it was a rock at first(it was at night) but i dodged him luckily. i dont know wheather he moved in the end lol, he was still standing there when i drove past. silly bugger.

  • For me you cant go past the Platypus, and the Echidna, as Australias coolest animals. Sure, we have large numbers of insanely deadly snakes and spiders, but egg laying mammals? Thats seriously cool!

  • You're very welcome, and if you have more questions, i'll be glad to help the best i can. There are actually quite a few suggie enthusiasts on youtube that have been caring for them much longer and much more intensely than i (bottle feeding rejected joeys, and the like). I will give you one warning i was never given: Prepare to be pissed on! They cannot be potty trained no matter what, so anywhere you allow them to go, including your person, will become a toilet at some point.
