Aliza Schwab in the News: 7 News at 10 WSVN (9/6/07)

On August 23, our 4-year-old daughter Aliza Schwab was playing at our family's North Miami Beach pool during a barbecue. She slipped into the water, nearly drowning. She is now on life support at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

On that horrific day, paramedics got her heart beating again, but doctors at Jackson have deemed her brain dead. Under Florida law, doctors are allowed to remove life support from patients who are brain dead, but Aliza's beating heart and our family's faith has us holding on to hope.

We are very grateful to all the doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital who have cared for Aliza, and we have been assured that she will remain on life support, for now, regardless of the law in Florida.
 
We now are urgently seeking the help of a medical facility that can admit our precious girl and actively treat her.

This is sooo sad. My heart goes out to this family. This family had the ability to save lives. I still pray for all people who have to deal with the most terrible task asked of mankind having to see our children taken frm us.

my bestfriend was declared brain dead also, exactly one year ago..it was really hard for her family and us her friends the people that loved her. its a really hard situation because theres nothing to be done other than wait for a miracle...she was disconnected 1 week later after her accident. that is the hardest thing to see a love one laying down in a hospital bed fighting for their live..

That's the real good mom fighting for her daughters life...but wat if ur daughter needs too let go she tired and god always has better plans for us no to mentioned we just borrowed everything we don't own even our own life he only the one who can decide for everything... sending my prayers to the lil precious angel

It's really sad, but they said that the child is brain dead.

The body is just the machinery that allows the mind to interact with the universe. Here the mind is gone, the machinery however remains intact - if the diagnosis of brain death is accurate, then the parents are simply wasting their money to oxygenate a pile of meat.

Also, to the old lady; god has already pulled the plug on the child. It's time to pull the plug on the lifeless body left behind.

Man made the decision to allow her live on life support. What's the difference? That's still playing God. It goes both ways.

she's a cute baby. and it's very sad for the family, but they must decide whether or not it is best to keep her on support like that. if she can get out of it then keep going. but if she's just gonna live forever on the machine like that then it might hurt more than do good
