@crb247 What is a freeze plug ? As far as I knew, block heaters were wired thru a drilled hole into the sump, aren't they ?
-
@hatenewbz LOL my Yugo from 1984 start with six year 36 Ah Tesla battery power unit on -29c.
-
I have a 1994 Niva with carbureted 1.7 liter engine. it is not just to have it even in -10 degrees Celsius
-
How did you get it in US? O_o
-
Those cars were made to play in that kind of temperature all day long.
-
Ваз Нива.... exotic for ya, but here in Russia it is such a handy thingy :) But, you've got Chevy Niva, why don't you use it?
-
One Niva has been used at the russian south polar station. So its not big deal to run niva at -25 C
-
@MrKlemensas yes, you can!
aside from USA market, ladas were pretty much sold all over world - venezuelans loved them (go figure!)
i'm not from Canad, btw, but i know Ladas were offered - and sold! - as they were pretty cheap and still a good car! ;)
-
да нивы все время в легкую заводились! даже при минус 30!

why have three lever?????
QeXeQ 6 months ago
@QeXeQ There are 3 Gear levers. One for gear selection in the transmission. Medium length one is High-Neutral-Low in the transfercase and the short one in front of that is for the Transfercase Differential lock. The Niva is set up as an all wheel drive vehicle so in order to have equal torque transmitted to both front and rear axles you lock in the transfercase Differential.

what is "block heater"?

I'm not sure if my reply's are working.... A block heater is an electric element that replaces a freeze plug in the engine block. They are used to heat the coolant to aid in cold starting.
