@fantasyexctasy well the only reason i brought numbers into the discussion was because the person i was arguing with said that 2k beat out madden in sales. numbers do mean something if the goal is to make the most money. if you made lemonade and 9 people would buy it everyday while 1 person would completely hate it does that mean you're gonna stop making it?

What's funny. It took madden all the way till madden 10 to show simple things like fans outside the stadium.

@skinsfan2828 At it's current rate 2K could have possibly made more money with Madden in 2 or 3 more installments, but now we'll never know. No doubt Madden had higher profits overall but 2005 was getting close.

@skinsfan2828 more sales doesn't equal more money. 2K5 didn't have nearly as much marketing which is a huge expense. Also, Madden at the time (and well still is) was an established franchise. ESPN was still a newcomer to the sports game scene. Selling just over 50% of what madden sold is a huge accomplishment and EA definitely felt some pressure there.

@dreamslayer i was going by the 2004 sales. that's the overall sales but still it proves my point that madden on ps2 did make more than 2k5 on ps2 and xbox combined

@skinsfan2828 Madden sold 4.4 million on PS2, ESPN sold 2.5 million. On Xbox both madden and ESPN sold 1.4.

@halomo81 madden made 3.2 million on the ps2 alone while 2k5 made 1.5million on ps2 and 1million on xbox. search 2004 video game sales and you'll see
