Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Festival, Malthouse Melbourne & Edinburgh International Festival present
Optimism
by Tom Wright, after Voltaire
Direct from critically acclaimed seasons in Melbourne and Edinburgh tickets to our first show of 2010, Optimism, are selling fast.
Frank Woodley, of Lano and Woodley fame, stars as Candide, who has enjoyed a privileged life and merrily subscribes to the theory that all is for the best. That is until his love for the Barons rosy-cheeked daughter is detected and, by way of punishment, he is ejected from this Eden. Here begins Candides extraordinary and epic journey around the globe. The world he experiences is cruel and frequently brutal Will it chip away at his insatiable optimism?

This was amazing when I saw it at the Malthouse last year. I'd recommend it and totally see it again. Frank makes the perfect Candide.

I really enjoyed this play, and couldn't understand why many people around me didn't!
They appeared to be rather purist about how un pc it was in parts, and the comparison to the original.
They tended to be older generation though, which could explain.
