I was 11 years old at the same year (1983) cat 3 Typhoon Ellen to attack HK. I felt very storng and imposing than cat 1 Typhoon York 1999.

That's one more testimony that York's winds were weaker (or much weaker) than Ellen's. I have not experienced winds that strong for such long duration since the time of Ellen.
