Its kind of hard speaking about Eva Peron in a factual sense because there are so many myths surrounding her. At the end of the day, it all depends on which side of the fence youre on. I, for one, would much rather take into account what historians such as Maryssa Navarro, Nicholas Fraser, Tomas Eloy Martinez, Carmen Llorca, Alicia Dujovne Ortiz, Joseph Page, Robert Crassweller etc, have to say about the matter since they have written heavily researched, well documented books on the subject.
-
She was fired from the radio station where she worked and no one would hire her. At this time, since she was Perons mistress, she was hated and according to many historians, there was an incident where she was even pulled out from a taxi and brutally beaten up to such an extent that she was almost unrecognizable.
-
They state that at the time, Eva did not know the union leaders, she didnt own a telephone and they state, as mentioned previously, that Eva in 1945 was not the same woman who in a couple of years was giving impassioned speeches on the balcony of the Casa Rosada. According to all of these historians, the fact that Eva Duarte stayed with Peron at the time he was imprisoned demonstrated that she loved him. When Peron was imprisoned in Oct 1945, Eva Duarte was pretty much black-listed.
-
In fact he flaunted Eva Duarte and in one occasion, he even took Evita to a gala event where men usually only took their wives. According to respected sources, they were clearly smitten by each other. These historians also firmly state that contrary to popular belief, it was not Eva that organized the rally that was responsible in getting Peron out of prison in 1945 as seen in the musical "Evita" and repeated in several books.
-
Reasons being she was a former model who did not shy away from appearing in "cheesecake" photo-spreads; she was also an actress; she came a lower-class background. And as far as Peron is concerned, it was normal for a man to have a mistress in those days but they were to be kept hidden especially if you're constantly in the public eye and Peron definitely was at the time. Peron did not hide their relationship.
-
All of these historians/scholars agree that Eva Duarte in 1944 (the year she met Peron) was not the same woman, the blonde "Evita" of 1947 and beyond. In 1944 she was just a radio star who was just getting in to movies. Juan Peron was a more powerful individual at the time since he was a part of the Argentine government. When they became lovers, both of their reputations became tarnished. Evita was seen by the established classes as a harlot.

There are a majority of people that believe Eva & Peron did not love each other and were only together because each one complemented each other and that their marriage was more of a business arrangement. The musical EVITA also fuels this belief.
This is indeed false. Eva and Peron loved each other and several other historians agree. Both Peron and Eva had a lot to lose in publicly displaying their relationship.
Madonna is such a great EVITA! She really deserved the Golden Globe!GREAT!
