Greg Pritchard Countertenor Sings Nessun Dorma Britain's Got Talent 2009 [HQ]

Greg Pritchard is a countertenor - ie male singing voice whose vocal range is equivalent to that of a contralto, mezzo-soprano, or a soprano. Usually countertenors sing through use of falsetto as appears to be the case with Greg singing Nessun Dorma here (as Paul Potts did 2 years previously).

i don't know why people are so impressed by this...i mean, i sing bass, but i can also sing as a countertenor. it's just honed falsetto. but props for this man for nailing it.

I've heard many countertenors and i'm afraid i have to say this is a really bad quality countertenor voice.

No one has mentioned how the castrati were the precursors of the countertenor - am I correct??? If these people are shocked by his voice, they will be more so when they read about the castrati!

He claimed that his voice was extremely rare, but I've been listening to countertenors for the past 30 years. They're not that rare anymore - I've heard at least 9 different countenors in person who have incredible voices, but Philippe Jaroussky is my favorite! I suppose if you're not a baroque music afficionado, you probably wouldn't hear the voice.
