5. General Washington; From an older English ballad tune family called "All you that love good fellows," this 18th century tune was often used for patriotic verses. These distinctive lyrics were written by Jonathan Mitchell Sewall (1748-1808). Music: "Liberty Song".
6. Of All the Simple Things: This comic song may have been written by Thomas D'Urfey to an older dance tune called "The Mouse Trap." The more common opening line was "Of all the simple things we do."
7. Durang's Hornpipe: John Durang (1768-1822) was a dancer, actor, choreographer and theatrical entrepeneur. Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he was America's first native-born theatrical dancer of prominence. Durang credits composition of this tune to "Mr. Hoffmaster, a German Dwarf, in New York, 1785." Washington attended performances by Durang in Philadelphia in the 1780's and 1790's.

This seems to have been transposed from the original D major to F# major to fit the baritone voice (as opposed to a tenor)...very inspiring tune!
