As part of my Landmark Education's Self Expression and Leadership Project (SELP) course, this movie documents "Through My Eyes", a 3 day photography event I created which was conducted within Hutch School at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center in Seattle Washington.
Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Jerry Gay volunteered his time to teach the class and was AMAZING with the children!
The children who attend Hutch School are temporarily living in Seattle while they or someone in their family is being treated for Cancer within Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center.
During this 3 day event, Children were introduced to Photography. The kids were introduced to the power of "seeing" with the camera and how sharing what we see helps build community. During the second day, each child was given their own camera and lead on "photo safari" around Seattle. At the end of this project, children were given frames for their photographs and then encouraged to share their framed work the patients here for cancer treatment.
Many thanks to journalist Alan Burner for covering our event and the Seattle Times for publishing it in the paper!
And finally, THANK YOU Glazers Camera, Kodak and Panda photo lab for your kind donations!
