This is a video of microfilaria of heartworm (Dirofilaria immitus) in a drop of blood under a microscope. It's not perfect, but it shows how they whip around. They have blunt heads and long, pointy tails. They migrate to the right atrium of the heart and settle down to have babies if they are female.
my puppy i adopted has heartworm. she is on doxycycline for 4 months then she will get adulticide. im happy for the doxycycline to do two jobs, making the adults sterile and killing bacteria from the worms and the microfilarias. i also have puppy of iverhart plus up to 100lbs 1 tablet every 2 weeks, to kill microfilaria. she is only 1 1/2 year old female rottweiler. very healthy, heart strong.
