Glasgow Rocks secured their place in the quarter finals of the BBL Trophy thanks to a come-from-behind 69-60 victory over one of the BBL Cup Finalists the Sheffield Sharks at Kelvin Hall on Sunday evening.

Mike Copeland netted the opening basket of the game for the Rocks, but the Sharks hit back with a 9-0 run to lead 2-9 early on in the game. Both sides traded baskets for the remainder of the opening period and the Sharks maintained their advantage to lead 13-20 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second period both teams traded 9-0 runs to take the score to 22-29 midway through the period. The Sharks finished the first half the stronger with a 7-0 burst to take the score out to 22-36 heading into the locker rooms at the half.

In the second half the Rocks started the stronger and 14-4 burst trimmed the deficit to just four points at 36-40. The Rocks continued to close the gap and a Rob Yanders basket tied the game up at 44-44 with 1:02 remaining in the third period, but three free-throws from Tafari Toney and a Mike Cook basket for the Sharks took the score out to 44-49. Jessie Sapp netted the final basket of the quarter to leave the Rocks trailing by three points at 46-49 heading into the final stanza.

In the final quarter the Sharks got the lead out to five points at 48-53 but could not shake off a resiliant Rocks outfit as the home side broke the game open with a 14-2 tear, including a three-pointer from Rob Yanders which tied the game at 53-53, to take the score out to 62-55. The Sharks trimmed the deficit back to just four points at 64-60 with 1:39 left in the game, but five successive free-throws from Yanders to close the game out handed the Rocks the victory.

Yanders himself led all scorers in the game with 23 points for the home side, while Cook led the scoring for the Sharks with 22 points personal.
