I pictured a rainbow,

You held it in your hands,
I had flashes,
But you saw the plan,
I wandered out in the world for years,
While you just stayed in your room,
I saw the crescent,
You saw the whole of the moon,
The whole of the moon.

You were there at the turnstiles,
With the wind at your heels,
You stretched for the stars,
And you know how it feels,
To reach too high,
Too far
Too soon,
You saw the whole of the moon.

and I was grounded,
While you filled the skies,
I was dumbfounded by truth,
You cut through lies,
I saw the rain-dirty valley,
You saw brigadoon,
I saw the crescent,
You saw the whole of the moon.

I spoke about wings,
You just flew,
well I wondered, i guessed, and i tried,
You just knew,
well I sighed,
But you swooned,
I saw the crescent,
You saw the whole of the moon,
The whole of the moon.

With a torch in your pocket,
And the wind at your heels,
You climbed on the ladder,
And you know how it feels,
To reach too high,
Too far,
Too soon,
You saw the whole of the moon,
The whole of the moon.

Unicorns and cannonballs,
Palaces and piers,
Trumpets, towers, and tenemets,
Wide oceans full of tears,
Flag, rags, ferry boats,
Scimitars and scarves,
Every precious dream and vision,
Underneath the stars.

You climbed on the ladder,
With the wind in your sails,
You came like a comet,
Blazing your trail,
Too high,
Too far,
Too soon,
You saw the whole of the moon,
Whole of the moon ....

  • Fuck off, snobs. It's a lovely cover.

  • @songsmadeforyou

Its a cover, The Waterboys (mike scott )wrote it,, check out thier This is the Sea ablum

  • I don't know who Many is -- I resigned from pop culture -- but the Waterboys and Mike Scott are favorites, and this is among thr greatest songs ever. She gets it. That she reads, not sings, the "Unicorns and cannonballs: chorus is impressive. (Note she uses "symitars" not :saddlebags:):

  • not bad but no comparison to the waterboys

  • It was written by the WATERBOYS from the UK in the 70's . Great cover Mandy!

  • @agramsci she's mrs. ryan adams.nuff said.

  • When someone covers a song they don't usually do it to try and improve the song. They do it as a tribute to the original artist. Good Job Mandy on having good taste and doing a descent job on the cover.

  • If you know the story of this album, she personally picked all the songs that she wanted to cover. It blows me away because I have loved this song since the original album came out and for someone so young to love it enough to put it on an album speaks volumes about who she is. I just love her.

  • love this version better than the waterboys.

  • Wow. Don't compare her to Mike Scott. It's not about that. You can hear the feeling in her voice and isn't that enough? She sells it 100% on this.
