Excellent comprehensive review, as usual. This D800 really is a game-changer, both in terms of image size, and video ability IMO.
I think a lot of Canon 5D MKII shooters/videographers might have considered changing platforms after the D800/D800E were released.
Again, thanks for another excellent review.

Lol I was one of them. Used the Canon 5D MII for a year but just hated the auto-focus . Although the MKIII does look good.
Thanks for watching buddy and the feedback, appreciated :-)

Great test on the audio... The fact that you throw 2 mics gave me perspective; which no one has done..! Thank you...

Why medium format for portraiture? Smoother tonality and the look imparted by longer lenses with more relaxed resolution and less DOF on a larger sensor. It has little to do with high resolution. Even 22MP requires retouching to remove skin imperfections that weren't resolved at 8MP.

Then why do people shoot portraits on medium format?

Hi, i've seen a number of your vids now, and you do really good reviews, I like the comparisons, because official websites, don't have that feature. You're explanation is good, I have looked at the trends of release dates of cameras on wikipedia, and it looks like they release in feb and sept, although there's no trend in the number of years. Any idea, if Nikon is planning to release new camera post the D600 in sept this year?

I used a D800 from 3/22/12 through 8/26/12 for portrait and lifestyle photography. My camera had the faulty AF module. At the time, Nikon was still in denial about it. I didn't find it a great camera for photographing people because of its AF maladies. The 5DIII I use now has much better AF with cross sensors more widely spread across the frame making accurate focus with wide apertures away from the center of the frame a breeze. And, for portraiture, even the 5DIII is overkill at 22 MP.

Do I need to buy a speedlight flash for the D800? what's the quality of its built-in flash?
