This is a Moire Clock art project done for a contest at instructables. It uses a transparency attached to the minute hand over a disk attached to the hour hand, the combined motion creates a moire affect that changes with time.

  • this is w=(az+b)/(cz+d)

  • Excellent job!! I think a 30 second watch would have sped up the effect to where it should be. I beleive you used a 60 second??

  • so are both of these moving r just the top,,, very cool ?

  • Cool moire effect, but here's another interesting thing I noticed about it. If you watch it play normally, it looks like the front disk is spinning, and the one behind it is motionless. If you scrub back and forth through the video, though, it looks like the back disk is moving and the front one is stationery! Try it! Weird, huh?

Naturally, the back disk must be moving, but very slowly, and when scrubbing you must get a stroboscopic effect on the front one like wagon wheels in old movies.

I needed to show someone how this looks in detail, and here it is!
