ok so.. took me like 50 tries, then it said devil may cry in vergils voice, and on the title screen his image is not darkened anymore. I have all the outfits for dante and vergil, and all of the difficulties, but no devil trigger mode :/

it works man! hold L1,L2,R1,R2 then hold left and up of the d-pad (directional pad buttons) then rotate the left analog stick from right downward and voila! if you hear the DEVIL MAY CRY (demon voice) then you're doing fine!
