Half-Life 2 fucking sucks dick

This good part of hl2 is when gman orders you to throw stinky onions at one of the enemy Columbine soldiers. As you roam the courtyard of the school trying to prevent the slaughter don't forget to hold tab to check on the objectives gman has given you because the game doesn't hold your hand the whole way through in the worst presentation of a non-story ever.

half life 2:the game starts,doctor breen(you hear his name in the beggining) is telling propaganda on a big screen,which explains what happened..you meet alyx vance,daughter of eli vance,the leader of the resistance,has a sense of humor(makes jokes),her mother was killed during BMI,and she is blaming dr. breen for that,she is kind of attracted for you(unless you're gay you have noticed that),*you meet eli,dr. kleyner,col kabage,etc.).how about that?

We've already established that the plot is totally absent from the game now please describe in detail any of the characters without saying what they do in the game or what they look like. Duke Nukem just spouts out one-liners ripped off from John Carpenter movies and he's a better character than everyone in Half-Life 2 put together. Now please, describe any of the HL2 characters without saying what they look like or what they do in the game. You can't because they're not characters. They're caricatures. @MrNichita Okay, let's describe all of the characters of Max Payne without saying what they look like or what they do. Max Payne is a family man who's selflessness and willingness to sacrifice anything for his loved ones is matched only by his ruthlessness and lack of mercy in the face of torment, as well as his desire to see the machinations of certain organized crime families and sinister corporate entities stopped, even if it means the end of him. I'm already out of room to type anymore. :)

You also seem pretty adamant that the game is "plot-less". I really don't get how you can say that. The player always has a story-related goal that they're working towards, which is a lot more than I can say for most other FPS games. There's a sense of pervading mystery throughout the world, and that feeling of discovery and progression is something most games only dream of achieving.

Alyx Vance is also used fantastically in the HL2 series as well. Sure, she's not complicated but she's a likable and competent person that adds some emotion to the game and moves the narrative forward. They even play around with the player's fondness of Alyx, having her injuries being the main driving force for the first part of the second episode. That's some good narrative right there. In the first HL game, the NPC's were just generic scientists, yet they were used effectively in creating emotion and mood (constantly being killed horribly, sometimes accidentally by the player's own hand). In HL2 Barney and Kleiner might not be terribly *deep*, but they do create a sense that you have allies in this game. Eli's warm personality and sagely demeanor gives the impression that you've reached an island of peace in this ravaged world. (cont. again in next post)

The world is fun to play around with and the game has damn good pacing to boot. Your RLM-style "describe the characters w/o appearances" argument doesn't hold water because these characters actually do have personality traits, it's just that some of them aren't particularly complex. But (as RLM would say) they don't need to be, they serve their role in the narrative. (cont. in next post)
