  • I have a male khaki campbell... but he is still in juvenille feathers... when will he get his dark head?

  • @BarneyLovesLegacy I am not sure when they start getting their dark heads, but it is very gradual. Ducks usually mature in 8-12 weeks so I know you will see the dark head by then, if it is for sure a male. :) hope that helps!

  • If you are used to showing steers, then showing ducks should be a piece of cake;) It is easier showing pekins because they are a heavy weight breed and you don't have to hold them the whole time like you would a light class duck. If your duck does not stand still then just put a hand or two on it so it does not fly off the table. You will lose more points if the duck flies off the table than you would if you held it during the pose. And don't be scared, showing ducks is fun!! Good luck =)

  • Do you have any reccommendations on how to get ducks used to being handled? I have 2 pekins, about 2-3 months old, and they are able to be free and swin in our pond. They run like crazy if I am standing up trying to catch them, but they get closer to me if I sit.

  • I would start by attempting to hand feed them while you are sitting down. They won't take the food from you at first, but with time they will realize that you won't hurt them. After you have them hand fed you can try and pet them, and eventually you will be able to handle them. It is no quick process, but it is rewarding after they are tamed =) Good luck!

  • Wow! A lot of people I now in 4-H do dogs =) I hope you have a good time with your new ducks!

  • How long should you have a duck before the fair? Also, if I want to auction one, what duck breed would I need?

I want to try ducks, but I know very little and am afraid I won't do something right.

  • Nice vid but how do you flip your duck up side down?

    P.S. I have 2 blue swedish ducks.

  • does this go for black runners as well or are they a different class?

  • I liked your video. :) I was wondering what you have to wear when in a duck show. I was also wondering, since i have muscovys, if there's much difference in showing them. Also...... sorry for making this so long........ do you have to be part of the 4H club to show ducks.

  • can u show more abiut ducks

  • vary vary helpfuy im going to show ducks next summer

  • less sound

  • Great video. I have Muscovie ducks and I'd love to show them. Does 4H have groups for Muscovies? Do you know if the showmanship would be similar to what was in your video?

    -Raves.

  • this is very helpful! in my county we have no instruction untill the show. more would be great and if you could get video of an acutal show that would be awesome!

  • At my fair we hold the duck upside down when show the stomach, wings and feet and i think it works better and is a lot easier
