Howard Rangers came out of the winter break looking to start 2012 with a much needed 3 points, but they had to settle for a point after both teams battled hard in this 3-3 draw against Wigton Stocksman.
The game had hardly got warmed up before Howard Rangers took an early lead after some good work from Martyn Hall setup Aiden Hanley for his 20th goal of the season. Wigton struck back within minutes after a rare mistake from Howard Rangers keeper Mark Graham let in Dan Martos who fired home. The rest of the 1st half became a stale mate as both teams struggled in the muddy conditions to find another breakthrough. Half Time 1-1
The 2nd half was much better with both teams pushing forward in search of the winner and Howard Rangers should have been taken an early lead, but Wigton's keeper pulled off a great one handed save from Scott Cameron to keep his team in teh game, soon after Warren Douglas struck a good shot straight at the keeper before Scott Cameron fired high and wide with what was a great chance. The Howard Rangers pressure did eventually pay off, this time Aiden Hanley turned provider as he setup man of the match Martyn Hall who made no mistake lobbing the keeper from close range.
After this setback Wigton got themselves into top gear and were unlucky on a number of occassions themselves, then just as it seemed Howard Rangers might just hold on to the 3 points Wigton struck twice in 10 minutes Dan Martos grabbed his 2nd to level the game and a great move minutes later seen Mike Clark head home to give Wigton the lead. That shook Howard Rangers and just as it seemed that the game was lost Chris Armstrong came off the bench to rescue a point with a great strike with only minutes left..
Both team will have been happy with a point after struggling in the conditions along with xmas break had taken its toll, with players struggling with fitness..
