In Sonic 3, which takes place a few months or perhaps years after Sonic 2, not everything goes back to square 1 at the start, does it? Tails is still with Sonic, and the things introduced in Sonic 2 are still present in Sonic 3. In Sonic 4 episode 1, the elemental shields are missing, the act 1 bosses are missing, bonus stages are missing, Tails is missing, you get my drift.

Tell that to the Defence Research Establishment Pacific.

My only real main complaint is that the game shouldn't be called Sonic 4. I don't mean that like "How dare such a bad game carry on from the numbering of the classic trilogy!" but rather the fact that it just doesn't seem like a sequel. It seems more like "Sonic 1.5" rather than 4. I mean there's literally no story, there's no characters aside from Sonic and Eggman, yet it's said to have started where S&K left off. You'd expect more explanation about the chaos emeralds and a grittier story.

i was pissed that people only wanted the same as the originals. they wanted nothing new. i mean sonic 4 was just like a tribute with old levels and ideas.
