Throttleman is a company dedicated to the production and selling of men, women and childrens clothing. Started in 1991, Throttleman is totally client orientated and follows a set of values and principals like solidarity, efficiency and innovation. In the last four years the company has grown 161% and assumes that in 2010, the two million pieces earmark will be reached. The growth and the sales volume has led to some logistic problems. The cargo containers come directly from the suppliers and can carry up to 60,000 items. They have to be checked manually, item by item, by people hired specifically for that job. The number of stores at that time was more than 60, and for all this the time necessary to get an item to a store rose and left a flaw in the whole process. Throttleman considered a number of alternatives to the logistic process however, all the alternatives were either too expensive or didnt adjust to Trottlemans reality. The choice was RFID technology because of all the advantages it presents together with the high flexibility and performance. Throttlemans choice of the RFID technology resulted in a solution known as Retail ID, which was implemented by Sybase together with Paxar and Creative Systems. The solution led to a maximization of the whole logistic process which in turn led to a high return on investment. With an implementation window of only seven months, Retail ID is now a crucial tool in Trottlemans operations. Using the RFID Anywhere Middleware, its possible to follow the whole reception and validation process, integrating the gathering of information directly with the ERP. The process optimization led to a reduction of 60% in storage space, a gain of four selling days, and an optimization in the ticketing and packing process. And this is only the beginning. Throttleman now has the possibility to do orders by store and not by family item, and this simplifies the whole process. Upon its receipt, it goes to the RFID tunnel for identification and validation and is sent to the store. In this phase, it is possible to validate about 15,000 in only one hour and for only one RFID tunnel. With the use of RFID technology, the possibilities are endless for Throttleman. It will be possible to simplify the inventory process or even use our RFID directly with POS. The customer experience will also be increased, in the future all stores could have a magic mirror like the one shown. The customer could easily try on some clothes, request a different number or even take advantage of a one time offer directly in the dressing room. The stores assistant will then receive the information in the computer and get the customer the number he asks for. The process will be easier. The customer will be satisfied and this will lead to growth of sales. Thanks to RFID, Throttleman is now a company prepared to face the future.

  • great info on rfid! I saw a documentary on the local news the other day on how impossible it is to check all of the freight containers that come into port, leaving the US (and other nations) with huge security issues. This kind of rfid technology would certainly help!
