@macanix Thats exactly why the Canadian Navy decided to get rid of the old SHIELD chaff launcher which was developped and fielded after the falkland war.

The Halifax frigates are now equipped with the MASS system from German company Rheinmetall. "You tube" shows 2 videos under "MASS Rheinmetall"

This shield system was developed after the falklands with aceptable effectiveness against styx-type missiles. It was only fielded to the navies of Canada and Singapore only. Better than SRBOC, but no longer in service !!!!

most missles will denotate when they beleive they are at their target to prevent over penitration.

for others haveing chaff 40 feet away from the ship and easily change the trajectory of the missle causeing it to miss

yeah, but the ship needs a long time to start moving, doesn't it? by that time the incoming missile will have had hit the ship long before half of it has moved away from the initial position!

The ship always changes course after launching chaff so even if the missile continues thru the cloud of chaff it wont hit the ship.......
