The double bass player was Tom Edwards - there a video of him with Phil & Tich on YT, called fever.wmv, uploaded by TheTomEdwards. Some great stuff on his channel too.

Phil Mignaud now lives near San Francisco, and is frontman for a band called the Rhythm Doctors. They've got their own website and sound pretty good (just add dot com to the name) - though I still prefer Phil & Tich! I sent Phil a link to this video, and he was very moved. The elderly couple sitting near P & T were his late parents.

My dad set a gig up down the see wall back in the day and these guys played there. and me dad was one of the many bikers who drank in that pub.

i remember going to see these guys every sunday afternoon in the royal oak with my uncle i was only about 9 or 10 at the time and kitty was the landlady and they used to play tunes like "blue moon of kentucky" and "Goodnight Irene" being sung along by the whole pub ! what an atmosphere it used to be !!!

bass player was with the Hennesseys I think. Phil Mignaud played with the Rhythm Doctors in San Francisco - google Phil Mignaud

I can't remeber the name of the bass player, but I think he played with the Hennesseys.
Phil Mignaud played with the Rhythm Doctors in San Fransisco - photos and info if you google Phil Mignaud
Great to see but the audience look very different from the students and biker crowd I remember. The bass player was Dewi Watkins I believe, Geraint Watkins the piano guy that played with Dave Edmunds-Van Morrison etc and the Balham alligators. I remember him singing "Goodnight Irene" and Phil and Titch playing "What's a Sweetheart like you doing in a dump like this" and "Things we said today" and Sabre dance.

Amazing to see a video of Phil & Tich. Just amazing. In those days I was a distance runner, and would do a 20 mile run Sunday morning, then have 5 pints of SA watching them (with the double bassist) lunchtime! Who needed other drugs! Lost count of the number of times I saw them in the Oak, and earlier, in the Marchioness of Bute folk club.

@OnkelOtto7 thanks for your comments, I think the double bass player was Geraint Watkins' brother who played for a philarmonic ochestra when he wasn't playing 'The Oak' with Phil & Tich

This is so good to watch. I worked with Phil n Titch at The Vale Activity Centre in 84/85 when they were organising monthly gigs at Barry Island.
