A senior Greek government official has told the BBC that domestic terrorism and strikes have had a devastating impact on tourism, a key industry which generates 20 percent of the country's income.
Experts on Crete, Greece's largest island, say that earnings from tourism this year are likely to fall by thirty percent, that's three times more than government estimates.
These statistics are bad news for a debt ridden country, which is struggling to meet financial targets laid down by the International Monetary Fund and European Union.
